DupeCleaner · Last updated September 28, 2026
DupeCleaner ("the App") helps you find and remove duplicate files, similar photos, large files and unused apps on your Android device. Our core principle: your files stay on your device.
What the App does not collect
- We do not upload, copy or transmit your files, photos, videos, documents or their contents.
- We do not require an account and do not collect your name, email address or phone number.
- We do not access your contacts, messages, call logs or location.
- We do not run our own servers. We never receive your scan results.
Storage access
The App asks for media access and, on Android 11 and later, "All files access" (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE). It uses them only to:
- read file names, sizes, dates and locations to show your storage and find large files;
- read file contents on the device to compute fingerprints (MD5 and perceptual hashes) that identify duplicates and similar photos;
- move files you select to the App's trash folder, restore them, or delete them. This only happens when you confirm.
Files moved to trash are kept in a hidden folder on your device's storage (.dupecleaner_trash) and are permanently deleted after 7 days, or earlier if you empty the trash.
Usage access (Unused apps)
If you turn on "Usage access" for the App, it reads when each installed app was last opened and how much space it uses, so it can list apps you haven't used in a while. This information is only shown to you on the device. It is not stored beyond what's needed to show the list and is never sent anywhere. Uninstalling an app always goes through Android's own confirmation screen.
Advertising
The App is free and shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may collect and process data such as your device's advertising ID, general device information, IP address and ad interactions to deliver, measure and, where you allow it, personalize ads. Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA and UK), the App asks for your consent through Google's consent form before requesting ads. You can change your choice at any time in the App under Settings → Ad privacy choices, and reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's Settings → Google → Ads.
Google's use of data is described at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and in the Google Privacy Policy.
| Service | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob / User Messaging Platform | Showing ads and collecting consent | Advertising ID, device info, IP address, ad interactions |
Data stored on your device
- Scan results, settings, cleanup history and the trash list are stored locally in the App's storage.
- Clearing the App's data in Android settings, or uninstalling it, removes them. Files still in the trash folder can be deleted from the Trash screen before uninstalling.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the App's release notes.
